Yesterday I left Christchurch and hitchhiked to Lake Tekapo. I had intended to spend the night there, but it was a little too touristy for my taste. So I caught another ride and ended up by Lake Pukaki. Although it was hard to tell because it was so misty. The visibility was only a few metres so I couldn't see the water at all. But I pitched my tent and stayed warm and happy in my sleeping bag while the dew settled heavy on the tent. In the morning the dew had turned to ice. After almost an hour of trying to pack my tent with freezing fingers I gave up. The zip was stiff with ice and I broke the tent on two different places. So in frustration I threw it in a bin (the season for camping is over anyway) and kept hitchhiking after taking a quick look at Lake Pukaki.
Two rides later I arrived in Wanaka by Lake Wanaka. The sun is shining, it's a beautiful day!
